In 1995 Walt Larimore and Bill Peel began collaboration on The Saline Solution. Bill brought his writing skills and work on evangelism in the workplace to Walt's practical experience in his own doctor's office to create the now well-known continuing medical education course for the Christian Medical and Dental Associations. The ethical limitations and time constraints resident in a medical practice brought a discipline to the creation of the course that produced a highly dynamic and cutting edge approach to evangelism. Taking advantage of a new openness to faith in healthcare, The Saline Solution has been part of a spiritual revolution in the medical profession in America giving doctors who follow Jesus a way to purposefully and appropriately take their faith into their practice.
Today, The Saline Solution is a key part of a bold, new approach to medical missions developed by Dr. Bob Snyder and International Health Services using the existing medical system of the world. By mentoring national medical leaders to adapt and translate The Saline Solution training course for their country and implement a plan to train their own national physicians, IHS is spreading the gospel to areas unreachable through traditional paths of evangelism.
Currently, IHS has held envisioning conferences for 1500 doctors from all over the world and has installed nationally-led, on-going Saline Solution programs in four countries. Currently Christian medical organizations from 30 additional countries have asked for the Saline program to be translated and developed in their nations. Later in 2006 The Saline Solution will be taken to the two countries with the largest non-Christian populations in the world.
