A Word for Pastors
God is moving in the workplace. Hundreds of books, groups, and studies are springing up every month to discuss how faith can be applied to one's work. Men and women hungry to find a faith relevant to their daily lives are seeking answers from God's word. At the same time, people outside the faith are on the biggest soul-search in history. My question is simply this: Will the church take part in this renewal and opportunity for spiritual impact? It seems counterintuitive to encourage people to discover their ministry at work when their local church has so many needs. Research as well as my experience shows that helping people take their place in God's plan in

the workplace creates spiritual hunger in their hearts and makes them as a whole more supportive than ever of their church because it is speaking to this dominant part of their lives. Here are some of the results you can count on.

Increased outreach to 20 times your weekend worship attendance
Direct access into the third largest mission field in the world
Increased satisfaction level from members
Heightened volunteerism and an increased willingness to serve
Intensified hunger for spiritual growth as people see their lives make a difference in God's Kingdom
A new source of leadership manpower along with workplace wisdom and skills
Expanded influence and increased respect in the community and workplace
Expanded resources and revenue from the business community for mission and community outreach

The fact is that God loves the workplace. He spent a lot of time there.

Of the 132 accounts of Jesus' public ministry, 122 are in workplace settings.
Of 52 parables Jesus told, 45 had a workplace context.
Of 40 divine interventions recorded in Acts, 39 were in the workplace.
Jesus spent 9/10 of his life in a small business, a carpentry shop.
Three quarters of the men and women we call biblical heroes were not religious professionals.
The Bible talks more about work than it does about worship.
Work is God's idea.

If churches fail to speak to this area, we can be sure that the world's values will continue to dominate people's lives.
